Practice at your Convenience

Despite a few hiccups in both Queensland and Victoria with short lockdowns, it has been a great start to the year and while there is still a long way to go, there has been positive news from the State Governments.

As has been evidenced by the lockdowns, the challenges that we all faced throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic during 2020 is still a long way from being behind us – we all need to remain vigilant and stay on track of the requirements placed on our premises through the Public Health Orders and Directions.

All Go Kart Club of Victoria members (or parents) will now be offered the option for more convenient practice days at any time of the week with personal access via our electronic gate. This will provide members with the flexibility of practicing providing they are appropriately Licenced Karting Australia officials.

Members who are not Licenced Karting Australia Officals will only be provided access at specific times published by GKCV.

The process to obtain your Licenced Karting Officials Licence - Grade 4 is as follows:

Complete the online courses via Karting Australia web site – there are 4 core subjects  – once completed you will gain your Grade 4 Officials Licence

To start these courses you need to email the below address and ask for a Officials Academy Log in

[email protected]

PLUS

A requirement by the Victorian State Government is that all volunteer officals throughout Victoria must have a current Working with Children Card. This check is completed at – www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au

This is a free service and on the application please list this as a Volunteer Check and nominate Karting Victoria as the organization.

National level events will continue to be conducted on the Prime Tyres. This is using the National Competition Rules and the State Regulations and Supplementary Regulations to their maximum advantage – where the organisers of each competition want to use them. The organisers of the State Cup and the various State Trophy events that seem to be developing, would only need to nominate which of the Prime or Option Tyre would be used for their event in the Supplementary regulations for their event. Noting of course that those Supplementary Regulations must be approved by the State Association. It is recommended that this Table and the accompanying explanatory statements become incorporated in the 2019 Victorian State Regulations.

Volunteers Needed

As president of one the best and most successful clubs in Australia I am writing this letter to all members and their families and friends, in a bid for your assistance.

Our club is in desperate need of volunteers to assist in running our race meetings and specifically, our club day meetings.

Over the past 12 months we have noted a steady decline in official’s numbers to the point where we run the real risk of having to cancel a club day meeting due to not having enough people to organise and run the meeting.

This attrition rate is due to several circumstances which include people moving on to other fields of endeavour, several retirements  and other volunteers just "burning out".

The shortage of people willing to volunteer to help run a meeting is not limited to just our club.

Many clubs are having to cancel their club day meets, because of lack of officials and volunteers for much of the same reasons as above. We need to ensure that this does not happen to our club, by lightening the workload on our existing volunteers.

If you are able to assist in any way, we can guarantee that you will have a unique vantage point to watch the trackside action from very close quarters!

We need a starter, grid marshals, leading up to trainee stewards and Clerk of Course accreditation.

Assistance and training will be given to new volunteers.

Please have a think about these positions as they are rewarding and you would be doing a great service to your club.

For further information, please contact either Gary Haythorpe, John Wall or Stella Pringle.

Best Regards,
John Wall

Shamick Racing 4 Hour Karting Enduro

Facebook Event Page
Supp Regs

IT'S BACK!

In what will be Australasia’s biggest karting race this decade, the 4 hour TAG endurance race at Todd Road on December 15th has cash & prizes totalling over $20,000!!

This will be similar to the race event we held a few years back, so for drivers who previously competed in it will know how much fun it was.

This will only be open to the first 75 karts (two man teams)!! From the talk around the pits over this will fill up quickly. Teams will be represented with two drivers utilising one of the TAG engines currently available (X30, ROTAX, GALAXY) on MG Red Tyres. There will be two sets allocated to TAG Senior competitors with the second set only being purchased by the people who make the final field.

The event will also see a KA3 Junior category compete for a 45 minute Enduro with one 5 minute mandatory pit stop. Junior drivers will be using the same Dunlop tyre as this year, one set throughout qualifying and race.

For the first time, there will also be a Cadet category competing which we are excited about!

The length of the race will be 30 minutes with one mandatory pit stop and one driver. It’ll be a mixture of Cadet 12 & Cadet 9. 40 entry maximum for this category.

The race will be in the clockwise direction (up the hill) and the clover leaf (in grid / out grid) will be used for Pit stops and weigh ins.

For now we have already secured over $20,000 in cash prizes to be divided between the categories. A big thanks to our sponsors to date; Shamick Racing, AA Semi Trailers, Focus On Furniture, DPE Kart Superstore, Patrizicorse and many more.

Once the cut off is met, you'll need to wait until 2019. I can assure you it's one of the most enjoyable days you'll have!

Karting Theft

Could members please keep an eye out for these karts and trailer. If you see this trailer on the road or come across these karts please contact the police.

My Son & I are members of the GKCV and are both keen competitors at club level. Karting is a fantastic sport to participate in with your child, especially during teenage years when spending time with your parents is not high on the agenda for most kids.

Unfortunately our time in the sport may have ended because our trailer containing both our karts and absolutely everything we own was stolen from our factory in Hallam on Easter Sunday. It is looking highly unlikely that our insurance will cover them.

Following details might be relevant.

Paul McBeth V4868
93 Tag Heavy & Tag Masters
2013 FA Kart 30mm Blue Chassis No. BY64956
IAME X30 Engine No. B1401
Custom stickers – Marvel frozen chips
Transponder – 5324476

Daniel McBeth V4406
41 Junior National Light
2007 TonyKart Green Chassis A879941
IAME KA100 Engine No N37AU01 (used once)
Standard Tony Kart stickers
Transponder 2409076

Trailer was a large white single axle enclosed trailer with side that opened up entirely. Rear door had “The body Shop paint supplies” sign writing.

Needless to say we lost all our gear including helmets, suits gloves, trolleys, spare X30 engine, all my tools, axles, hubs, all our tyres, snipers etc etc
Also our licences and fob pass to the Todd Road gate were in the trailer.
Any assistance to recover things and keep us karting would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Paul McBeth

2014 President’s Report

I would like to thank my executive and Race committee for their support over the past 12 months. The committee have worked diligently and we have achieved positive results both financially and in the continued improvement of the club’s facilities and infrastructure.

Membership.

Our membership base continues to be strong and I believe our numbers are more than holding its own, compared to other clubs.
One of our mission statements has always been to make new members feel welcome and help them assimilate into the club as smoothly as possible. We believe this is the main reason we lead other clubs in our attraction and retention of members. Our members are also well aware of the fantastic track layout and surface that they get to race on.

Financial Position.

Thanks to good financial management and business acumen of our committee, I am pleased to report that our financial position is strong and this enables the club to continue to both maintain and improve our facilities.
We generate income in many ways, which includes conducting successful race meetings, selling advertising and hiring the track for many outside promotional activities. The committee manages to do this without adversely affecting member’s use of the track. This reduces the need to increase membership costs excessively.
Our liabilities continue to be rental each year from Parks Victoria, and an interest free loan from the VKA which we are steadily whittling away. Of course we also have ongoing maintenance and repairs to buildings, the track itself and grounds.

Track and Infrastructure.

Improvements to the buildings and track continue and most members will have noticed the subtle improvements to the facilities. Our plans to resurface the track in November last year together with new kerbs materialised and we now have one of the finest surfaces of any track in Australia.
Other works included upgrading and improving our timing system, refurbishment of the toilet block, revitalised sound system and upgraded safety fencing - delivered as promised.

Race Meetings.

To ensure the long-term financial stability of the club, it is imperative that we continue to organise and conduct our open race meetings with the same degree of professionalism that we have achieved over past years. We are achieving this by training newer members to organise and run meetings, thus spreading the load and providing redundancy backup should key members be absent.
The Club’s ability to organise and conduct successful meetings is not lost on event promoters or KA officials alike. This almost guarantees that the club is never overlooked for open meetings.

Summary

I would like to thank all committee members and friends for their spare time and assistance in achieving the club’s goals and achievements.
I thank the members who gave of their time to assist the club in varying roles throughout the year. These roles included lap scorers, scrutineers, grid and scales marshals and track officials.
With Karting Australia’s new whole of sport review and its ramifications with eligibility rules and regulations, I am sure that the club will look after the rank and file of members with a steady transition over the next few years. Changes and streamlining needed to happen but we must ensure that no one is disadvantaged to an unacceptable level.
In closing I wish the incoming executive committee every success in maintaining the club and everything it stands for.

Yours Sincerely,

John Wall
President

New Fresh Look for Australian Karting

News from Karting Australia - http://www.karting.net.au/new-fresh-look-for-australian-karting

Since being vested with control of Australian karting on 1 September 2013, the Karting Australia Board of Directors and administration have been working to build the foundations necessary to reshape and sustain karting in Australia for the long term.

The main part of this work has been conducting a complete review of the sport, the findings of which have been released today in the report titled – “Creating The Pathway To Growth, Stability And Integrity In Australian Karting – Karting Australia's Whole of Sport Review – 2014.”

This 'fresh eyes' review of Australian karting has taken many months and involved broad consultation with members and key stakeholders.

The Whole of Sport Review addresses, through a multi-faceted approach, six key principles that have largely gone missing from the sport of karting in Australia as it has developed:

  • The need for karting to be Fun.
  • The need for sustainable Growth.
  • The need to provide Value for money at all times.
  • The need for Simplicity in a sport that is at times overly complicated.
  • The need for the sport at all levels and in all places to be conducted with Integrity.
  • The need for improved Retention of competitors, participants, officials and stakeholders.

The Karting Australia Board believes improvements in these six key areas will position karting for growth, a healthy long-term future and increasing relevance in the Australian motorsport and general sporting landscape.

“It was apparent to us from the earliest time that the Board was involved in the sport that there was a need for a major cultural change,” said Doohan.

“We recognise that cultural change is not easy and that it will take time but we are prepared to build our new culture! For karting in Australia this is a time for leadership. We will do what is hard. We will do what is right. We will do what the sport has been crying out to be done for a long time.

“We have recognised the need to put the fun and value back into karting for all to enjoy while constantly striving to raise and deliver upon the expectations of all people entering into and involved in the sport.

“We need people in karting who share our values of delivering and participating in healthy, safe, fun and value for money motor sport. People who are focused on what our sport can become – not what it was or what they thought it was. Sport that must be and will be conducted with integrity at all levels – at the events, on the race tracks, in the paddock and in the committee rooms of our Clubs and State Associations.”

The release of the Whole of Sport Review is a significant starting point for a long-term plan for karting in Australia.

“This is the starting point in a long term plan. This is about our actions, our character, and our people sharing a belief that this is our sport – your sport, and that together we can and will make Australian karting the envy of the global karting world,” said Doohan

“Nothing less will be acceptable.”

Included in the 110-page Whole of Sport Review are outcomes that touch every aspect of the sport of karting in Australia across the following areas:

  • Competition
  • Rules and Technical
  • Competition Licences
  • Clubs
  • Race Tracks and Facilities
  • Junior Development
  • Safety
  • Judicial and Race Meeting Control
  • Officials and Officiating
  • Brand and Marketing
  • Karting Industry
  • Pathways – Karting for fun and Striving for Excellence
